Yesterday, Kira and I went to Newport with our biology club to go see some whales. I was soooo excited; its migration season for whales, so we were expecting to see a variety. The weather was perfect. For a winter day, it was sunny and warm with clear skies.
Here's a pic of Kira. We were still maneuvering out of the marina. That beautiful, red hat atop Kira's head used to be mine, but I never wore it, so when she helped me clean my room, I gave it to her. I think it suits her well :) you're welcome.
There were a lot of expensive looking houses that had private piers and boats. I thought, "One of these days I shall live in one... hopefully."
I bet this is how rich people do networking and get more rich... by being neighbors.
Once we got out to open sea, there was a lot of ... open sea watching happening... it was just so much fun =_=
Yep, just starin' at the sea. I think I would go nuts if I stayed on a boat too long unless it was Luffy from One Piece's boat.. I wouldn't mind that. So, soon after we left the marina, I got seas sick. It was horrible; I felt nauseous and uncomfortable. Someone told me to go sit at the back of the boat where there is the least rocking, so I went and made friends with the other sea sick people. We sat there making conversation with occasional groans of discomfort. Only one girl barfed and I just happened to look when it happened. It was orange.. haha tmi? sorry.
There were no whales to be found and in the end, after two and a half hours, we saw a few sea lions basking in the sun on a buoy . -they were cute- There was one huge one and it was apparently the alpha male.
The captain told us we were unlucky. He said it was unusual for there to be none. This chart shows how many of what was sighted on given dates. How the heck were 3,200 dolphins sighted on one day and none the day we went?!
A cute dog we saw. The owner said it is a miniature husky.. didn't know there's such thing as a miniature husky It was cute and so docile.. just sitting there comfortably in its basket.
After we got off the boat, we all went to go eat at Ruby's Diner. It was located at the end of the pier.
I ordered the Cobb Burger. It had lettuce, tomato, bleu cheese, avocado, a patty, and bacon. I totally forgot to take a picture. I thought it tasted decent.. not the best, just okay. I also ordered clam chowder. That definitely tasted bad. Kira said it was good though.
We ate on the restaurant's balcony. Amazing view right? It was nice. However, the restaurant has a constant bombardment of pigeons that feared no humans. They attack food the moment people leave their seats.
So that was our very eventful day. Although there weren't any whales, and I ended up getting sea sick, it was all together a fun day. We also each received a free pass to come back because of the absence of whales.
Next time I will surely take some Dramamine.
